During his 'Voter Rights Journey', Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made a significant stop in Araria, Bihar, where he launched a fierce attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He accused the central government of attempting to 'steal votes'.
Allegations Against the BJP Government
Speaking at a public gathering in Araria, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the BJP government is trying to rob the votes of the poor through a special intensive review of the voter list (SIR). He described this process as an 'institutional method of vote theft' supported by the Election Commission. Gandhi stated, 'After privatizing public sector units, the Narendra Modi government now aims to steal the votes of the poor with the help of the Election Commission through SIR.'
Criticism of the Election Commission
He sarcastically referred to the Election Commission as an 'electoral blunder', asserting that this move is unconstitutional and aims to disenfranchise marginalized communities ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar.
Commitment to Protect Voter Rights
Rahul Gandhi emphasized that the India alliance will not allow this to happen in Bihar. He asserted that the Constitution grants equal rights to every citizen, and this action is entirely against constitutional principles. He warned that the people of Bihar will respond decisively to the BJP and its allies in the forthcoming assembly elections.
Concerns Over Employment and Poverty
Gandhi further alleged that the Modi government has closed all avenues for employment for the youth and has funneled the nation's wealth into the hands of a few capitalists. He stated that they are now stealing votes and infringing on citizens' rights.
Bihar's Struggles and Public Support
He highlighted the issues of unemployment and poverty in Bihar, noting that many people are forced to seek work in other states. Gandhi also mentioned that his 'Voter Rights Journey' has been very successful, as the people of Bihar resonate with the issue of 'vote theft' and are rallying behind him. He made it clear that his focus is on changing the Election Commission's stance and vowed to prevent any electoral fraud in Bihar.
